The aim of IPORA is to build a network capable of: (i) analyzing the multidimensional transformations underway in Africa; (ii) identifying the questions posed by these transformations, the study of which could help define public policies; (iii) co-constructing interdisciplinary studies to answer these questions; (iv) strengthening interdisciplinary research capacities in partner institutions.

IPORA is structured around 3 axes and 8 Work Packages:

  • Axis 1 (Work Packages 1 to 4) develops the network
  • Axis 2 (Work Packages 5,6,7) develops interdisciplinary research projects,
  • Axis 3 (Work Package 8) deals with training through research.

* Research projects are identified and designed within three separate working groups, each with a specific area of expertise.  The scope of these areas may change over time. The three main areas at present are :  Urbanization (WP5), Agri-food systems (WP6) and Populations (WP7).

Each Work Package is coordinated by two or three scientists from different countries. Work Package coordinators are appointed by the General Assembly, with due regard to balance between discipline, gender and geographical origin.
